Blepharoplasty

The upper eyelids and lower eyelids, along with other areas of the face and neck, may become wrinkled and develop fatty bulges. These conditions may be inherited or may be secondary to age and sun exposure. Michigan Facial Aesthetic Surgeons concentrate on correcting these issues by performing an individually tailored upper and lower eyelid surgery.

BLEPHAROPLASTY PROCEDURE

If both upper eyelids and lower eyelids need correction, they are done at the same time. The blepharoplasty eyelid surgery takes about two hours; however the patient is lightly sedated and feels no pain or discomfort. There is minimal disability associated with eyelid surgery which allows early return to one’s routine.

Each blepharoplasty operation is followed with varying degrees of swelling and discoloration that usually subsides in 7-10 days. The use of cold compresses will reduce swelling and the thread-thin scars can usually be hidden by make-up. After several months these scars gradually blend in well with the surrounding skin and become perceptible only by close scrutiny.

Several weeks after we may advocate a light peel to further tighten the skin around the upper eyelids and lower eyelids. This is an easy procedure that is done in-office with zero side effects.

Sometimes facelifts are accompanied by other procedures including brow and forehead lift.
